Born in Memphis, Tennessee, E.K. was raised by an artist and an engineer, which cultivated her fascination with both art and scientific investigation. From a young age onward, E.K. experimented with material combinations; she is always in search of new ways to create or transform surface texture. E.K. is based in Kansas City, Missouri where she received a BFA in Fiber and Art History at the Kansas City Art Institute. Her fiber-based works explore medical concepts, like the abnormal connections within the human body, as well as the use of natural materials for sustainable artistic practice. E.K.’s work is inspired by her life with with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a genetic disorder which causes loose and weakened connective tissues in the body.
